Feelings about film photography: “use the treasures you have kept”

After almost 40 years I am back to ‘analogue’. I return to analog photography, film photography that is associated with my digital photography. This phrase “use the treasures you have kept” is from a great friend of mine –  Ricardo ‘Lilika‘ Lima – and it expresses a deep feeling about the film photography that he feels and that I have felt again in the last few days. “the real is not at the exit or at the arrival but in the middle of the crossing.” (joão guimarães rosa)

This thought is (very) valid for me in photography. The (many) trials (and errors) are (most of the time) more interesting than the end result. Continue reading ““the real is not at the exit or at the arrival but in the middle of the crossing.” (joão guimarães rosa)”

DAIDO MORIYAMA INFLUENCES. Series II.

This is the second series of my photographs that I present in tribute to this great Japanese and world photographer named Daido Moriyama, whom I greatly admire. These photos are from several dates made in the city of São Paulo-SP, Brazil.

But the results I have obtained in black and white have delighted me. Continue reading “Monochrome or color landscapes?”

“Jujuy Palette” in black and white. Part Ia.

I now share black and white photos of northwestern Argentina – a beautiful region with stunning landscapes.

This series was called “Palette Jujuy” where I try to express the strength and emotion of the multicolored hills that are in the region of Pumamarca. Continue reading ““Jujuy Palette” in black and white. Part Ia.”

In praise of black and white photography

There are many phrases already spoken about black and white photography, but this one by Robert Frank summarizes and symbolizes everything for me:
“Black and white are the colors of photography, which symbolize the alternatives of hope and despair to which mankind is forever subjected.” Continue reading “In praise of black and white photography”

Images of a profound Brazil that I miss so much

A feeling that has been on me for the last months: ‘feeling of a profound Brazil’.

These are images of people, customs of life (personal and collective), beautiful untouched rural landscapes or small-scale farming, all very authentic, where men and women work hard day by day and live a simple life far from the sophistication of famous urban and industrial centers. Not surprisingly, they are first and foremost very happy.
