I'm an amateur photographer based in the city of São Carlos, São Paulo state, SE Brazil. I used to make photographs since I was about 15-17 years old. My first camera was a Olympus Trip, an analogue camera. Many years after that I switched to several digital cameras. Presently I own a Nikon D500 with a small set of lenses and a Fujifilm X100T 23mm. A few years after my retirement as an university professor, after teaching Environmental Chemistry at the Federal University of São Carlos (UFSCar) for 45 years, I decided to invest money and time dedicating myself more seriously to photography. I´ve taken on-line courses as well as I´ve participated to various photography festival across Brazil. By far, my biggest interest is street photography. And in it, I'm interested in portraits, everyday street scenes and architecture.

Release of the photobook “RURAIS” and photo exhibition: An invitation

I invite my dear friends to the (in person) release of my book of photographs “RURAIS” (rural workers) which will take place on October 23, 2021 at the Casa de Cultura Odisséia, Al. Ministro Rocha Azevedo, 463 São Paulo (SP-Brazil) from 11:00 am to 6:00 pm.

Photographs of the author will be exhibited from 10/23 to 11/17/2021 which, as the book, will be for sale at the site.

Rurais (Editora Origin) by Antonio Mozeto: “Very little is known or publicized about our vernacular culture for various reasons, but mainly due to its wide spectrum in front of an extensive and heterogeneous country, populated by different origins. We also inhabit a land full of stereotypes when dealing with our imagery, but paradoxically of immense richness when we delve into its details, as is the case with this book by Antonio Mozeto. I consider myself privileged in life and for several reasons, one of them being that as a professor and researcher in the environmental area at the university, I had almost countless chances to travel and discover the Brazilian Amazon region for several decades.

The photos I share today are from a series I called “Children of the Amazon” and were taken on analog (color slides or negatives) several decades ago. But here they are: alive as never before.

I have many questions that fill my mind: where and how are these “children”? Will they still live in the same places? Were they married or not? How many children will they have had? Will they be happy people? For me I only have the memories of those happy days for me and those beautiful and happy children…

Mario Giacomelli, born in Senigallia, Italy on 08/01/1925 and died in Senigallia on 11/25/2000, was a great Italian and world photographer, but he was also a typographer and painter.

[new topographics of são paulo state, brasil]

I understand that these photos show the tremendous strength that the sugar and alcohol (ethanol) industry has in Brazil, especially in the interior of the state of São Paulo.


But – it seems to me that there is always a but or more than one – it is a type of industrial activity that, although it has improved a lot in terms of negative environmental impact in recent decades, still causes environmental impacts and many of them are still unknown and difficult to be properly evaluated.


But, in life, we often look at certain issues from the lyrical side and I want to focus my attention on this aspect of what I do and see these photos that I take, even though I can’t get rid of the memory of the aforementioned social and environmental impacts.

[I want my country home with sheep, goats, horses and cows solemnly grazing in my yard; let it be neither small nor big, just the ideal size; that it contains a small lake ahead so I can see the reflection of the sun setting while sipping a good cachaça from an alembic; that contains my books, my records, my photographs and nothing else(*)]
